Shishamo is a small saltwater fish commonly eaten in Japanese cuisine that is simply grilled, and often found on izakaya menus. It's known for its salty flavour and a body full of roe.
Given its such a small fish, its thin soft bones and head is typically consumed together with the caviar and rest of the fish, including the tail! Enjoy the crunchy, mildly salty natural flavour of this very unique fish. Grilled, fried, or oven roasted, this fish is an absolute delight to eat.
